about

Call it nerdcore, call it foodcore: we call it DELICIOUS. Written in support of buying and eating locally, taking good care of ourselves, and bringing an end to world hunger, "Beetz in my Salad" is the first collaboration between S. J. Tucker and GLBTQ divas Big Bad Gina. We want to take it from Sesame Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, and beyond! Thanks for rocking out with us, and eat your veggies!

"Gonna please your ears with the vocal delight and teach your taste buds the right appetite!!"
-Wayne Chisolm, Vancouver BC

Track Name: S. J. Tucker and Big Bad Gina - Beetz in my Salad
Put the spinach on the bottom 'cause that's where it starts
Pull the kalamata olives and the artichoke hearts
With ya flax seed waxin' up in here
Vinaigrette get it wet all set to disappear

Yeah word to the 'shrooms, tell 'em come on down
Sprinkle crunchy little gluten-free noodles around
Like poetry waitin' in your salad bowl,
pretty local-grown veggies make it good for the soul

Cucumbers, baby bean sprouts
Avocado gets a shout-out
With ya pomegranate seeds sprinkled on the top, uh,
turnip the BEET so the salad goes POP

b-b-BEETZ IN MY SALAD, BEATZ IN MY SALAD...

Ozark Natural Foods is the local co-op
Their salad bar is bangin', yo, it just don't stop.
Check out the fresh garlic and the edamame
Like a party on my plate, make my body say, HEY!

You know we're rock stars and we're on the road,
Don't want no fast food, no truck stop, where is Trader Joe's?
or some Whole Foods, where the people care
about corn syrup, they don't sell it there.

A farmer's market might even be the best
freshest local produce, organic and blessed.
If you know where you're going, look 'em up online
They make a soul say yum yum yum yum everytime.

BEETZ IN MY SALAD

Think twice about the cans sitting on your shelf.
Choose the farm grown berries that you picked yourself.
Or take the kids to the market and get them some
'cause our babies need to know where their food comes from!

Skip the trip to the supercenter up all night.
You know the little local market's gonna do it up right.
We got no food if we got no farms so show the farmers some love
when you go to get your salad on.

We shoppin' in the sun in the market stalls
where the fruits and the veggies really got it going on.
I'm talking so many colors it'll make your head spin,
for a stone soup 'n' salad with your mama an' them.

Holla at your girls,
Holla at your boys,
Everybody bringing' an ingredient of choice.
Cuz it's tribe and community that don't stop.
Share the food, share the wealth keep the love on top!

BEETZ IN MY SALAD

Sister, where you at?
Hook a sister up!
Salad in my face and chia seeds in my cup!
Girl, you know we got the world salad flow!
Brother, you know we got the world salad flow!

BEETZ IN MY SALAD

Some of us eat the meat, some of us eat the cheese.
Some of us are vegan and gluten free.
There's a raw food movement where the veggies go crunch
The grains we munch at dinner, snacks and brunch.

Lucky us, to have the food that fits our needs
But there's something else important and I gotta plant a seed.
We cannot write this flow wo telling the truth.
There are thousands of people without enough food.

Look around the globe, there's a world-wide fight
for fair labor, equal pay and equal rights.
It's not just far away, it's in our backyard, too
Makes me sick that there are people here w/o enough food.

No need to feel guilty, just recognize.
Find your local food bank and pile the shelves high.
"We all become important when we realize our goal
should be to figure out our role within the context of the whole."

Can I just say that I'm a lucky girl,
Grateful and humble, wishing for the world
A big salad bar where we call could meet
Piling our plates with greens and…
